McKINLEY COUNTY JUDICIAL CENTER
Gallup, NM

The new 21,670 gsf Magistrate courthouse design includes three new interior elevators to deliver complete segregation / isolation of public, court staff / judges and criminals. The existing facility had dangerous cross-circulation of staff, public and criminals which can lead to unwanted interactions. Extensive new data, communications and security systems were incorporated in the facility to accommodate present and future needs. Phase II included a complete interior renovation of the existing 9,554 square foot, single story courthouse building into the new Public Defender offices. This renovation included the replacement of all rooftop units and the addition of a new single ply roof. Completed in December of 2013, the facility is now functioning as an integrated “one-stop” justice complex which has enlarged and brought together these related functions into one centralized location and will attempt to satisfy the 15-20 year goals for the Magistrate Court and Public Defender.
