The facility program developed in response to a Sheriff’s Department needs assessment, established Community Policing concepts, and the principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). The program objectives included the use of durable construction systems and materials, effective integration of state-of-the-art Law Enforcement strategies and systems, and a built-in overall operational flexibility in an environment suited to the variety of functions and the people that work and interact within. Functioning as a self-sufficient decentralized public safety Command Center, the facility serves all facets of departmental operations for the South Rio Grand Valley of Bernalillo County. The site & facilities provide an environment that supports a fundamental mission to protect life and property, in upholding the law, in a fair and equal manner, while adapting to the ever-evolving needs of the Sheriff’s Department and the Communities it serves.
