UNM Farris Engineering Center
Albuquerque, NM

The UNM Farris Engineering Center renovation transformed an aging and outdated facility into a 21st century learning environment with the necessary infrastructure to house the innovative and technologically-advanced engineering programs at The University of New Mexico. The renovated building houses the Chemical and Biological Engineering, Computer Science and Nuclear Engineering departments of the School of Engineering. It includes space for staff and student offices, computer labs, server rooms, conference and event space, and student study spaces.

Originally constructed in 1967, the Farris Engineering building was a concrete monolith that lacked natural light and space for collaboration. The renovation utilized an abundance of glass to open the space and reinforce connections to the rest of the campus. Electrochromic glazing, or “smart glass”, on the building envelope electronically darkens and lightens to filter light, allowing the for an unimpeded view of the campus.
