East Mesa Public Safety Facility
Las Cruces, NM

The public safety complex design is the result of extensive collaboration between City of Las Cruces Project Representatives and the Architects & Planners. The overall design is an “open architecture” that integrates complex Information Age technologies, and balances current functions with flexible modular environments to embrace the need for change. The fully ADA compliant design observes USGBC LEED principles and incorporates Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Features: Natural Surveillance, Territorial Reinforcement, Natural Access Control and Target Hardening.

The Police Department and Fire Department partnered within one primary facility, achieving floor area savings and reduced development costs. “Common” area savings included combined/shared multi-purpose community conference center, training rooms, fitness/locker room spaces, building circulation systems, public lobby/toilets, mechanical/electrical/communications rooms. Site development cost savings were also be achieved with a single grouping of setbacks/green spaces, shared secure zones, and reduction in total public parking and driveways. The sharing of services, utilities, and maintenance costs will also yield savings in annual operational expenses. In addition to cost savings, a multitude of other benefits will be achieved, including information and resource sharing, and the development of relationships across agencies for improved delivery of public services.
