UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center
Rio Rancho, NM

The Sandoval Regional Medical Center represents phase one of a multi-phase master plan generated for the UNM West Campus promoting density, environmental responsibility, and connection to views. The building site is a largely undeveloped high desert environment with a significant degree of downward slope to the northeast and views of the Sandia Mountains to the east. The building footprint strategically minimizes site disturbance, maintains density, works with the grade to promote natural drainage, and allows connections to existing and future roads at varying elevations.

At 200,000 sf, the Hospital offers emergency, imaging and surgical services, a twelve-bed intensive care unit, eight inpatient psychiatric beds, and forty-eight med-surg beds. The 40,000 sf five-story Medical Office Building includes material management, a loading dock, food services, hospital administration, physician lease space, and orthopedic rehabilitation.
